The state’s strong economy has been a magnet for illegal immigrants for years. But a growing number are pulling up stakes out of fear they will be jobless come Jan. 1, when the law takes effect. The departures are drawing cheers from immigration hard-liners and alarm from business owners already seeing a drop in sales.
It’s impossible to count how many undocumented immigrants have fled because of the new law. But based on interviews with undocumented immigrants, immigrant advocates, community leaders and real-estate agents, at least several hundred have left since Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano signed the bill on July 2. There are an estimated 500,000 illegal immigrants in Arizona
Some are moving to other states, where they think they will have an easier time getting jobs. Others are returning to Mexico, selling their effects and putting their houses on the market.
The number departing is expected to mushroom as the Jan. 1 deadline draws closer. After that, the law will require employers to verify the employment eligibility of their workers through a federal database.
“I would say we are losing at least 100 people a day,” said Elias Bermudez, founder of Immigrants Without Borders and host of a daily talk-radio program aimed at undocumented immigrants.

They should leave if they want to survive.
Are they leaving Arizona for the other states? Or are they heading back to Mexico? We don’t want them here in Virginia.
To answer your question, yes, I’m aware many are starting to leave the United States. God bless them and good luck starting over back in their home countries.
awesome, let them go and bring in the legal people who are waiting patiently
WOW!! Excellent. Now, if only Illinois illegal criminal aliens would take hikes to the border, I would be a happier camper!!
I guess some of those polititions are browsing Yahoo answers. As I said before to solve unemployment all we have to do is expidite those that apply for the work program & hold them to 3year minial job probationary period, & go from there.
Some illegal immigrants bought homes with a false social security number, Realtors and mortgage reps were aware of that and the borrower signed a affidavit allowing the bank to cross references with IRS to verify their earnings and legal status .Others bought homes with tax id number only, some banks agree to give them a loan with tax id number regardless of their immigration status.( The banks, were suppose to keep the loan in house, and not to sell it in the open market)
Some bought homes under a program called no income no asset verification, they inflated their earnings in order to qualify for a mortgage, other wise they would not qualify to buy a dog house.
Now the good times are over and the properties are on the market, because they can’t afford the payments.
On the other side, the people who misled them are enjoying La Dulce Vita
with a huge savings account, and the investors are trying to figure out how come they have the short end of the stick.
The illegal aliens served a purpose, now is time to send
them back and let the legal immigrants come in, they have been waiting for a long time
PS
Illegal aliens are criminals by being here illegally and by
supporting illegal activities.
Mexico is already considering a wall of its own to keep them from getting back into Mexico.
