Phx, AZ: I only lived here for 2 years of my childhood. I have a huge family that lives here that is always having fun. The home prices are more reasonable. But it gets very hot during the summer. I would be interested in persuing real estate here.
Sd, CA: I lived here most of my life. I graduated high school and have a best friend for life there. But the home prices are very expensive and my mom wants to move to Arizona, so I would be eventually left alone in SD with only my friends. It is a very beautiful city, and it has a lot of oppurunity; I could do real estate here too.
Right now I am staying at my brothers house in AZ.
I need to decide where to choose…

Stay in SD CA….it’s the land of opportunity. Real Estate is the business to bank on out there. Tough it out with your friend for a while. Good Luck!
Follow your heart. I live in Southern CA and real estate is outrageous. It also gets very hot in the summer. If the market is better in AZ, go there, give it a try. If it isn’t for you then there are many other beautiful states in our country to consider. Remember, you can always change your mind. Every state has hot and not so hot weather. You are young, so live and enjoy whever you are. Life really is what you make of it. Good luck!
im currently in California and if money is not a problem i would say so-cal but if money is a problem arizona is much more financialy affordable and is still a very nice place to live
Arizona…better opportunity and more family support
i would move to Phoenix business would be good there lots of houses being built and plus your family would be there unless you dont get along with them. Phoenix is hot but its not humid like San Diego
Be like the senior citizens, stay in Arizona for the winter months and go back to SD for the summer.
I grew up in AZ and currently live in So Cal. I am much happier here, even without my family around. It’s not that $$ to fly to phx for the weekend and you will be living in a fun place, lots of visitors. Any choice you make in life is not one that will be forever. Just make the choice that will make you happy right now, own your decision and enjoy it! Stop stressing over what to do!
Phoenix. I used to live in Phx for 12 years. Im returning to Phx next month. Ive thought about San Diego but the rental prices are horrible! I could never make it there. Im on SSDI and doubt I could make it in CA. Phoenix is affordable. Im going back there. (with my family of course).
I would also suggest Phoenix. Since you plan on going into the Real Estate business you must realize that the two fastest growing areas in the United States are the Las Vegas area, and the Phoenix area. The opportunities for success are greater in Phoenix. And don’t forget that the cost of living is much lower in Arizona so all that money you will be making will go much further. Arizona has better schools, and lower crime than California. So it gets hot in the summer, just turn up that A/C another “click”.
No other place in the country has such nice weather as SoCal. But i agree with you, it is overvalued. Unfortunately for you in San Diego, you don’t get too many earthquakes, like in LA…i can tell you that when the next one strikes in LA, you will see for sale signs go up overnight.
I live in Michigan now, and I am originally from LA, here the harsh winter essentially takes 6 months out of the year, and then in the summer, the humidity takes another 3 months out of the year.
In Arizona 3/4 out of the year are gone due to the extreme heat….however…it IS a dry heat, and there is nothing like being in the pool or bbq-ing at 10pm at night.
I personally think Az real estate is going to drop further than Ca, and it will be a good time to invest for the long term pretty soon.
It really isnt that far from San Diego.

I live in Arizona and visit San Diego often. I could only wish to live in SD, but housing costs are too high. Phoenix is a great place to live and the summers are not really that bad otherwise there wouldnt be 3+ million people living here year round. The good thing is that SD is not that far and you can easily visit the place on a monthly basis. especially if u got friends there =) Give Phoenix a try.
Phoenix is the better of the two choices. You already know you have family that is going to be there for you. It is growing and the opportunities for you are much greater. It is still a relatively small metropolis compared to LA, so house prices and career options are going to be available to you, because the population is not growing to meet the job demands that abound there. That said, compared to earthquakes, smog, gang violence, tax issues, prices, taxes, commute time, etc, etc, Phoenix in the long run will be the place to set up your life. Our son lives there now, graduated from ASU, and is actively involved in politics in his community. He loves it there, as did we when we lived there. Our daughters got married and moved to midwest, which is where we are as we now have grandbabies I cannot live without!!
You have to go with your heart, and it sounds like Phoenix is tugging at it; live here, live here, work here!!!:)
I would say go for Phoenix for three reasons:
1) If you are looking for somewhere to “build your life” that will probably include starting a family at some point and when you do you will be glad you have family near by.
2) Real estate market in Phoenix will probably begin another upward trend in the next year or two, so it would be good for you to get in now and establish a client base.
3) San Diego is a 45 min flight or 5.5 hour drive, so in the summer when it is hot in Phoenix it will be cheap and easy to go visit your friends in SD and cool off
Grew up in SD but now live in Sacramento,CA. Cheaper Housing like Phoenix, AZ. Hot weather in Summer like AZ. Cool Winters like Phoenix, AZ. Driving Distant is almost the same. But you get the good ole’ CA equity. Some places it may not be good but as you know CA Homes are always a good investment. Central Valley they are selling homes for 100k. Crazy but true. So if you need a new place to live hey come up here to Sacramento and enjoy the super cold places in the summer like San Franscisco and crazy cold weather in the winter like Truckee.

Friends are fleeting, family is forever.
Assuming you are of college age or young adult, you will find over the next few years that many of your friends will be moving on with their lives…perhaps moving away, certainly many getting married and creating families. Don’t stay in San Diego only because of friends…because if they are good friends, you will only be six hours away from them…and good friends learn to stay in touch as they move on with their lives.
The only good reason to stay in San Diego would be opportunities for your future. And while you could certainly build a life for yourself there and be very happy, you have to consider that it would separate you from your family. (Not that Phoenix is all that far away.)
I never did have a close relationship with my family and I’ve always envied those friends of mine who do. San Diego is a wonderful place…probably the only big city in California that I would consider living in, but Arizona is nice too. Yeah, it’s brutally hot in the summer…but having your family nearby would be cool.
I would go to california,I live in Arizona & I hate it here,theres nothing to do but go shopping and stuff like that.
